Pick two cities and a date
Type a city name into the search box. The converter matches against the IANA time zone database: “London” resolves to Europe/London, “New York” to America/New_York. That database is the same source your phone’s world clock and airline departure boards pull from. Every major operating system and programming language relies on it.
Skip three-letter abbreviations. CST points to Central Standard Time, China Standard Time, or Cuba Standard Time depending on context. IST can mean India Standard Time (UTC+5:30), Israel Standard Time (UTC+2), or Irish Standard Time (UTC+1). Always pick a city or a full IANA zone name.
Read the conversion table
Each city gets a column showing local time, the UTC offset, and whether DST is active. Rows run hour by hour. At 09:00 in London, New York might show 04:00, but only if both cities are on standard time. The offset shifts the moment DST starts or ends for either location. Scan the overlap for a slot that lands inside business hours for everyone.
When does the London, New York offset change?
The converter adjusts for DST automatically based on the date you enter. DST transition weeks produce offsets that catch people off guard.
The US and Canada move clocks forward on the second Sunday of March. The UK waits until the last Sunday of March. During that gap, London is 4 hours ahead of New York, not 5. In autumn, the US falls back on the first Sunday of November. The UK already fell back on the last Sunday of October. That opens a 6-hour gap for about a week.
The IANA database encodes every jurisdiction’s rules, including Arizona (no DST, except the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii.
Find the best meeting time across zones
Aim for a slot that lands inside business hours for everyone. These are typical windows:
- UK: 09:00 to 17:00. Lunch 12:00 to 13:00.
- US: 09:00 to 17:00 or 08:00 to 16:00. Lunch 11:30 to 13:00.
- Germany: 08:00 to 16:00.
- Japan: 09:00 to 17:30.
- Spain: 09:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 19:00. Lunch 14:00 to 15:30.
- Italy: lunch 13:00 to 14:30.
- UAE: Friday half-day or closed. Weekend Friday, Saturday or Saturday, Sunday.
- Saudi Arabia: weekend Friday, Saturday. Shops close for prayer times.
- Israel: Sunday, Thursday work week. Shabbat (Friday sunset to Saturday sunset) businesses closed.
Avoid scheduling during the other party’s lunch or late evening. The strongest windows often sit in the late morning for one party and late afternoon for the other.
Why do three-letter codes break my meeting time?
Abbreviations are the top source of error. BST can mean British Summer Time (UTC+1) or Bangladesh Standard Time (UTC+6). EST usually means US Eastern Standard Time, but Australia runs AEST, a different zone entirely. Use the full city or IANA zone name every time.
DST transition weeks are the second trap. A meeting locked to 10:00 London time in March could land at 05:00 New York time one week and 06:00 the next. Check the date in the converter before you confirm.
